| While you or I, as an individual hunter, could purchase an 80 acre "ranch" and a couple of bison or elk, it is not entirely feasible, and certainly not the most efficient route to take. First of all, for both buffalo and elk, one bull can service several cows, and the species actually need wide open spaces for optimum breeding and health. Second, while bison and elk are about as low maintenance as you can get, they are animals, and animals need constant monitoring. Perimeter fences need to be kept up and water supplies maintained. Animals need to be protected from theft and poaching and wild prairie fires. This would be an impractical job for someone who lives out of the area and has other responsibilities, but if several of us "ranch pooled", we could hire one full time ranch foreman to safe guard everyone's interest. Third, buying a large ranch is cheaper per acre, as opposed to a small tract. It's like buying in bulk, if you will. Everything is cheaper in bulk. And when the price per acre is less, the taxes are less. The more we have throwing in together, the bigger and better it will be. Just imagine how great it would feel to own your own portion of the west, a sprawling ranch at which to spend summer vacation, a big game preserve for photographic opportunities, and a hunting resort at which to hang out in the fall; no permission required, no fees charged, no stickers on your windshield, and no one telling you when to leave. Normally such a privilege would require borrowing millions of dollars to buy a ranch with livestock, and paying hundreds of thousands in interest every year, but by splitting the purchase price, each share is reduced to a more manageable figure. For little more than the price of a single, one time elk or buffalo hunt, you can get all this; access to the entire preserve and a continual supply of meat. But the best part, your share of Tatanka Winds LLC should increase in value, and years from now you can turn around and sell your share, perhaps even for a profit, or pass it on to your child or grandchild. Get in touch now, and stay in touch as we work to form a limited liability corporation, search for land and purchase young bison and elk to stock it with. |
